Reading this articles highlights how archaic we are in the treatment of women when looking at sexual harassment in the UK. I could talk all day about this but one thing that stood out to me was the final outlaw of hymen testing in assault cases. Do we need to repeat that there are more than one ways to sexually assault a person all can be equally traumatic. This is representative of the laws perception of worthy cases also which brings me to where I feel the emphasis needs to be, the mental support of the victim and their families. The smattering of infrastructure that the police offer is inadequate and needs to be significantly increased if we want to see more women confidently coming forward, being supported and heard. Whilst perpetrators are convicted inadvertently sending the right message to all involved.
